Favorite Five: Dasein
By: Miles Silverstein
As this year’s Spring semester gets going, Hearing Aid has gotten together with Scottish psychonauts Dasein. Each member has given us a favorite record and some astute justification.
Ashton Overby: Mount Matsu, Yin Yin.
Mine is Mount Matsu by Yin Yin (currently). It relates to Dasein cause we funkalicious as fuck.
Moss Noble: Food For Other Fish, The Mermen.
As a surf music fan, this is the Platonic form of instrumental surf rock. It has also heavily informed my use of effects pedals (and relatably for me, there’s even a moment on the album where they forget to turn the reverb off). I want to play guitar like this guy – every song is almost totally guitar driven, but there’s barely a solo to be heard – every line is either a hook or a transition point essential to the structure of the tune.
Lukas Cobb: The Inner Mounting Flame, Mahavishnu Orchestra.
🎸🔥🤯🧟♂️
Archie Day: House of Spirits, Tom Noble
Mine might be House of Spirits by Tom Noble as it’s funky as fuck and proves that time is no barrier to production of 70’s-inspired funky grooves!
Matthew Lewis: No Voo do Urubu, Arthur Verocai
Mine might be No Voo do Urubu by Arthur Verocai because it’s got the Latin feel with full orchestral sound that makes me pee myself.
